The Medical Reserve Corps Program (MRC) was founded after President Bush’s 2002 State of the Union Address, in which he asked all Americans to volunteer in support of their country. The MRC is a partner program of Citizen Corps, a national network of volunteers dedicated to ensuring hometown security. Citizen Corps, along with the Corporation for National and Community Service and the Peace Corps, are part of the President’s USA Freedom Corps, which promotes volunteerism and service nationwide.
The primary mission of the MRC Unit is to assist local response efforts during a public health emergency in the county. This may include the mass distribution and administration of antibiotics, antivirals, and vaccines; providing mental health support; and assisting with triage. Other duties may include assisting local agencies with response to natural and man-made disasters and to augment other medical first responders at large scale events or emergencies.
In September 2019, the Tuscarawas County MRC was consolidated with the Stark/Carroll MRC. This was in an effort to create a stronger and more robust group of volunteers.
Now, more than ever, it is essential for the safety of our communities that we are prepared for any natural or man-made emergency. As individuals, we all need to take an active part in helping to make our community stronger, safer, and better prepared.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Members must be at least 18 years old, a US citizen or in the country legally, have a valid driver license and if appropriate a valid medical license or certification.
